The Need

There are many young Latino children in our community who lack the means to participate fully in various advanced athletic enrichment programs due to insufficient economic means. While there are a number of admirable programs that fund the inclusion of underprivileged children in various sports and athletic program, few if any can sustain the support past basic inclusion. This means that sports, such as soccer, may be accessible at a recreational level, but there are few opportunities for many youth players to continue to develop as athletes past the elementary level, developing the personal discipline, team competitiveness, and overall leadership skills that will assist them in school, work, and life as high performing contributors to society.

Why Soccer?

Soccer, or Futbol (Football) as it is known internationally, is the most popular sport in Latin American countries and is growing very fast in California. However, many of the best and most committed players are being left behind.

Competitive soccer is the one of the highest levels of youth soccer in California. In competitive leagues, kids have the opportunity to train under the best coaches, and play with and against the best athletes. This environment challenges them and prepares them for higher levels of achievement, and possibly the ability to play at the collegiate level.

The Opportunity

The Latino Sports Outreach (LSO) was founded to make modest investments of time and money into assisting the many high potential Latino athletes realize their full potential with the expectation that the return on this investment will accrue to all of us. Specifically, LSO is aiming to sponsor a growing number of youth players to play "competitive soccer," which is generally restricted to the affluent families in our communities
